GAME REVIEW: Soul Calibur 6 by The Aztec Gamer

The Soul Calibur Series has been around for 2 decades and they are celebrating their 20th Anniversary with the release of Soul Calibur 6 (SC6).

I consider the Soul Calibur Series the little brother to Tekken, and it has evolved in a similar way. SC6 is continuing its story with competitors in pursuit of the Soul Edge Blade. The main the story of Soul Calibur follows you as you go on a journey as Kilik as he searches for the Soul Edge to help battle his inner darkness.
The combat system is great, instead of pressing back on the D-pad to block, you hold X (PlayStation) or A (Xbox). Low and high attacks make a difference between landing a powerful blow and chaining combos together. Unlike the rage gauge in Tekken 7, you a have gauge meter that fills up and can change the outcome of a match with the right execution. Every character has their own special techniques. Additionally, if you and your opponent happen to press the same button you'll  perform a slow down attack that can change the match by striking low or high.

There is a customization mode that allows you to create your own character and go on your own journey through the Soul Calibur world.

The online game play is great, you can play casual or ranked matches with others. Match making is fast and the online competition is fun and competitive.

The Soul Calibur series continues on with the addition of guest characters with Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher 3 and more to come in the upcoming DLC.

Overall SC6 returns the series to its roots with its gameplay and online play makes it fun, even though the story mode could have been better, it's still great.

I give it a 4 out of 5 rating.
